When should I replace the windows in my home?
If you have single-pane glass windows (pre-1980) then it would be a good investment for you. Most windows sold today are double-pane glass. These windows have two panes of glass sealed together with an air space between them for insulation purposes. Double-pane windows help insulate your home against cold air, and they keep heat in more efficiently than single-pane glass. Additionally, if your windows do not slide well or are remain loose when closed then they are probably not sealing well and you are losing hot/cold air to the outside. Or if your windows have aluminum frames, you should probably consider replacing them with vinyl framed windows. Vinyl insulates well against hot & cold air transfer while aluminum does not.

What is "low-E" glass?
In general, "low-E" glass has a very thin coating on one of the surfaces of the glass that increases thermal efficiency of the window. Your windows can benefit from "low-E" coating even if they are not in the path of direct sunlight.

What is Argon gas and why is it in windows?
Argon gas is heavier than air, so it is often used in window manufacturing to fill the space (replacing the air) between the two panes of glass in a double-pane window. Argon gas further increases the thermal efficiency of these windows.
